The driest sense of humor ever or just saying? He is right on about the nation's obsession with Kohberger.  I was composing my own rant about the stupidity of desperate "journalists" and media to keep the Kohberger balloon in the air and NewsNation - which claims to offer unbiased news but has Banfield - awash with emotions meant to prejudice any viewer.  But then I saw this. I no longer click on any YouTube videos from Newsnation.  Shame on media that goes against our Innocent Until Proven Guilty.  It's one thing for YouTubers who live for clicks - which might translate into income - and people who are PAID JOURNALISTS, professionals, to be leading the way towards a pre-trial indictment.

Of all the YouTube True Crime videos I watched regarding this upcoming trial - and it could be a couple years - Surviving the Survivor is the most professional.

Ex President Donald Trump cannot shut his yap as if he is still campaigning for another bout of Presidency, going against President Joseph Biden, not even at this time of catastrophic invasion by Russia of Ukraine.  In my opinion his behavior is quite possibly treasonous to the United States of America and all our allies who believe in Democracy. Basically he is touting his relationship with Putin and his comparatively macho stance with Putin and thus Russia, as compared to the gentlemanly approach of Biden.  He says this war against Ukraine would not have happened if he were still President.  As usual, it is all about HIM.

Which were YOU on the schoolyard?  THE BULLY WHO STARTED THE FIGHT?  THE GANG LEADER?  THE PERSON WHO GOT PICKED ON?  THE ONE WHO TRIED TO BREAK IT UP? Did you walk away and decide it was best not to get involved because you didn't know who started it or what the fight was about?

Yea, Trump and Putin have a lot in common: They are both Bullies who spin Fake News. Evil people mess with our minds, and that is what if felt like every damn day of the Trump Presidency. Sick of being confused by the Princes of Lies, people felt they had to choose between being a member of a cult (The Republican Party) or dealing with the trauma that cult inflicted on the rest of us.  You had to choose sides.  For someone like me, whose beliefs were moderate overall - it was especially excruciating. What happened to honest debate? 

Does an ex-President have a 1st Amendment Right to Free Speech? Yes, he does. He should be reminded that citizens of Russia do not. Those who protest the war or anything else in Russia are being arrested. It is only because of those who have dared risk this arrest - and unknown future - that we know that all Russian people are not in agreement with their government  Does he have a moral obligation to speak the Truth? Yes. However, there is The Truth and then there is His Truth.

How do we know what information is True?  We rely on JOURNALISTS.

This morning one of the first news stories I picked up was that bombs had hit Lviv which is twelve miles from the present Polish border.  An airfield that was used for training and staging of Ukraine military air force was bombed.  Strategic?  Sure.

Remember the reports of Russian jets flirting with the borders of various countries a while back?

That WAS the hint of war to come.

The BBC is using WWII technology to get news and information into Ukraine.

The BBC is using shortwave radio broadcasts which are in English. This is in response to programing by various news outlets including Voice of America and the BBC itself being shut down by the Russian Government.

15735 kHz is the band to use from 4 PM to 6 PM Ukraine time

5875 kHz is the band to use from 10 PM to 12 PM Ukraine time.

POSITIVE THINKING and THE INABILITY TO EVALUATE - FICTION and NON FICTION by CONTENT CREATORS

I've been posting on self censorship because I can tell you that as soon as you start EDITING for the professor, the TA, the church, the "religious philosophy" of the school or the company you work for, or really anyone, you are out of flow. 

You have lost the ability to declare an alternative position. You may not be a radical. You may simply think otherwise. You may be capable of debate - of stating your opinion in a civilized manner without intent to create upheaval. You will be quickly shut down by someone with a more dominant status or bearing. You will perhaps decide it is no longer worth communicating with an individual because you can tell it will always be combative - if you are honest.  And you may hate your coworkers or your job because you're secretly so uncomfortable with the form or degree of political correctness involved.  But where you gonna go?

Imagine my friend who is volunteering for a nonprofit thrift store with a oversupply of jeans in sizes 7 and below for women. (i.e these are for such small hips one wonders how such a woman could give birth and survive.) She suggested they have a sale for these sizes - skinny people - and was told that would be DISCRIMINATORY!  I'm beginning to wonder if they will be able to continue to hang women's clothing separate from mens (that said, I'm sometimes partial to the unisex look and don't personally care if a man wants to wear women's jeans or visa versa but I can tell you, having tried it, that clothing patterned for the opposite sex rarely fits.) In actuality, it would be discriminatory to only sell those sizes to skinny people but it is not discriminatory to sell them to anyone who wants to buy them.

I've been thinking about these issues which have become increasingly prevalent in recent years.

People are expressing themselves all over the Internet but I wonder if this is because they cannot in their ordinary life? (What to call it? Personal Life (is there such a thing?) Real Life?  I suppose it is real if you are living it. Ordinary - as in NOT in the virtual world of the Internet?)

For those of us who remember life before there was Internet - or cell phones - we remember a certain feeling of connection with other human beings as well as overall, MORE TRUST that people would be honorable in their intentions.

I've TRUSTED a people who proved to be UNTRUSTWORTHY, and I understand.  But you have a choice in life to go around paranoid and to put everyone you meet on trial first, or trust them and let them prove themselves worthy of being hung. (It helps if you believe in karma and think you would not want theirs.)  There are so many con artists out there, for instance people who say they will pay you and then profit from the theft of your intellectual properties, that really we all need lawyers. (Now there's a thought.)

I would say that I meet few people these days who TRUST anything or anyone - not the government - and often, not even their partner they're having sex with. While being open minded to ideas and opinions and information in general, THERE IS A SEVERE LACK IN THE ABILITY TO EVALUATE THE SOURCE.  

Also I see that POSITIVE THINKING - combined with certain forms of religiosity - Christianity - can wipe out your ability to grumble to others as well because they won't hear you. Complain and someone will be negating your pain while telling you to BE GRATEFUL. Positive thinking or talking yourself out of what you're experiencing or feeling is a form of self censorship.

Gratitude is not for the things you earn or deserve. Gratitude is for the things you are given without earning or deserving. (Saying please and thank you can still go a long way.)

Following the Gabby Petito /Brian Laundrie case, I lost hours of my life clicking on YouTube videos with FAKE VOICES providing SPECULATION and THEORIES in search of information with some foundation. I wondered at these people who post these things - is it for hits - and eventual payout by YouTube?  Some of the more sickening stuff was a person who posted cartoonish videos of Brian being eaten by alligators. These people are called CREATORS or CONTENT CREATORS - and I wonder if their work should be labeled as FICTION. (How about it YouTube?)

i.e when it is the news  = journalism - it should be called NONFICTION.

VERY FEW OF THESE PEOPLE WHO WERE SUPPLYING CONTENT had the ability or reason to RESEARCH so they were basically supporting their take on the situation by leaning on others who also were not supplying content based on research.

A BUNCH OF LIARS.

SOME OF THESE PEOPLE WERE INDULGING IN NEGATIVE THINKING.  They indulged in character assassination.  They put Brian and his parents on trial.  They apparently do not endorse Americanism.  (OK, I get it that the legal process has not been trusted since the spectacle of the O.J. Simpson trial.)  They do not believe in the law or the legal process, or an individual's rights.

I know - I'm meandering and this needs to be edited.  But I'm in flow.  I'm letting my thoughts out.

This was going on when I was in college and I felt as if I was being indoctrinated rather than being taught to think for myself or rely on my own experiences,  I can only imagine how horrible it must be for creative writing students there today.  I felt like I was going to a religious school rather than a university with government funding.  The notion that you could only get away with creating characters whose ethnicity, race, religion, sexuality, or values were yours was strong.  The notion that there is no such thing as fiction or imagination really - that cut creativity.

Excerpt:  In the latest evidence of the free speech crisis engulfing campuses across the country, 27 percent of students said they have actively 'hidden' their opinions when they are at odds with those of their peers and tutors.

More than half of those who 'self-censored' did so because of their political views A further 40 percent withheld their opinions on ethical or religious matters for fear of being judged.

Well thought out, well said, I honor Sydney's right to have an opinion I might not agree with.  Though, surprisingly to me, I did agree with her on several issues.  If you want to be a well rounded person, you should seek out a wide variety of opinions and see where you sit with them.

Last night on my cell phone I bookmarked two of her videos.  One called I'm a Conservative and I've Had Enough and the other called White Privilege Is Not A Thing.  This morning, neither video was coming up on my computer when I searched YouTube for them to post on this blog.  I will try again and post them if I can.

Listening to Sydney I learned I'm a "Classical Liberal" as opposed to a Radical Leftist.  (What a relief!)

Free Speech is of supreme importance to me as it is to all writers - all creatives.

I've written in the past about Writer's Block. 

Fear is now creating Writer's Block in many who are afraid to accidently (or perhaps purposely) upset someone else in the world. It begins when you are afraid to admit who you are and what you think because the indoctrinaters are everywhere and people - including writers - out there are loosing their jobs, or quitting, even being bodily injured and maimed or killed. 

There is no longer a sense of humor or any love, kindness, understanding, or patience.  I feel that the anxiety and depression common due to Coronavirus-19 is part of that.

I dealt with this years ago when I went to a college that was so thick with political correctness (of that era) that I seriously questioned what a creative writing program was doing there.  Overall, in society, it has only gotten worse.

NO MATTER WHAT YOU THINK OR SAY, these days there is someone who is going to POWER OVER YOU and be insulted.

So let me affirm that you can be against prejudice and bigotry and still want to distance yourself from the tactics of Black Lives Matter.

You are not a Radical Right Winger just because you want police to be retrained but not defunded.  (And know that riots in the streets and nightly gunfire as there is in parts of Chicago and Baltimore is not what you want in your neighborhood.)

That you were not a racist asshole when you bought Aunt Jemima pancake mix or Trader Ming's frozen dinners.

That Agreeing to Disagree as Gentlepeople is still an option.

FREE SPEECH AND CENSORSHIP : EXHIBIT AT THE SKIRBALL

Hello Mudda, Hello Fudda...  The Skirball presents songwriter Allen Sherman in two days... and for some reason right now I want to eat a massive amount of jelly beans! 

 

Seems I head out for an afternoon to Skirball almost as often as I head out for the Getty for an afternoon.  Seriously though, a couple months ago I went to an exhibit there, the title of which I'm ashamed to not remember, and they had copies of books that had been banned including Little House on the Prarie, as well as a row of T-shirts hanging on wire hangers.

Each T-Shirt had gotten a kid who wore it to school thrown out of school, or at least sent home to change.

It really got me thinking about the Ist Amendment and Free Speech and whatever it was that our Founding Fathers intended.  (At the same time there was a Founding Fathers exhibit with original documents, some which had never been let out of the National Archives.)

I once, as a teenage, got thrown out of a candy store because I was wearing a T shirt that was for a Democratic candidate.  The owners were Republicans.  Not only did they refuse me a sale, but they wanted to know WHO MY PARENTS WERE!

What a load of shit!

Dates me, doesn't it!
