YOUTUBE HAS NO SHAME (WHEN YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC IS BEING USED FOR COMMERCIALS FOR PHARMACEUTICALS IT'S ALL BAD) DON'T READ THIS IF YOU 'RE SQUEAMISH!

YOUTUBE HAS NO SHAME

(WHEN YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC IS BEING USED FOR COMMERCIALS FOR  PHARMACEUTICALS IT'S ALL BAD)

DON'T READ THIS IF YOU 'RE SQUEAMISH!

Have YOU noticed that the Allman Brothers, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles (these two the early music which I believe is still owned by Allen Klein's company), and hell, not just music from the 1960's but even some music from the 1980's (which I suppose does qualify as Oldies) is being used to advertise products such as whisky and pharmaceuticals?

Sometimes I think an AI spy is looking to see who is watching what in a room. I especially hate the soothing voice overs that suggest the side effects that might be worth it to solve the maladies of aging, such as the appliance that stops the ruination of your (rear-end) skin from leaky bladder and runs off urine into a receptacle.

I think, OK, the guitar heroes and the owners of the musical intellectual properties are selling their catalogs (or at least a song or two) and are out of the control and so the music is being sold and used for these purposes. The guitar gods, the singers and songwriters, are facing their own mortality and want things to be more simple for their heirs, I get it, but it wouldn't just be Jim Morrison rolling in his grave over in Paris over the use of Light My Fire, because the energy of rock and roll is being used to suggest we medicate the aged with prescription substances. Would someone who liked whisky too much (or make it through a serious drug addiction) really want their music behind an ad for liquor?

It's assumed that if you love this music you must be old, old enough to be on at least one, maybe a dozen prescription medications... But if you like to be more natural in your approach to health there are advertisers waiting for you too.

Worse are the ads that come up on YouTube, which assume that if you love old Soul music, which I do, then you need pills for erectile dysfunction, and even worse than that, worse that some modern "snake oil" remedies that suggest that you will loose weight drinking some sort of pink salt mixture or simply warm water...  (If drinking warm water was the cure, surely this would have been discovered eons ago.)  ...  Let's just say that almost every food that exists is bad for you and go from there. And that it's assumed by what I listen to that I have a penis that isn't working and obese.

Even worse than that are ads coming up on videos, including podcasts, telling you how to conquer not just DIABETES but also STUCK POOP!  (One states no, it's not about SUGAR, another that it's not about  FIBER. These "experts" who are selling products are in conflict with each other by the way.)

It happened slowly that such ads showed up on GOOD SONGS WITH LOVING and ROMANTIC LYRICS. (Not, as my buddy says, more appropriately on "Rap Crap.") But now, it seems I'm getting one ad after another and some of them are gross and graphic. I swear to you that one of these commercials actually suggests how many times one would normally wipe, and another showed what looked like poop streaks on someone's underwear. Like I really want to have to experience such a commercial simply because I was thinking of The Temptations or - more locally - Pepe Marquez!

What can a YOUTUBE VIDEO POSTER DO?

First of all, I resent the way that these commercials ruin my experience, take the pleasure out of listening by inducing anxiety and worry. I resent being pushed to pay for a listen by accepting interruption. I have never bought a single product thrust upon me and have bookmarked very few for future consideration.

Who does profit from these ads?

I suggest that if you post on YouTube, that you say NO to having ads on your video... If you have enough hits, you should still be PAID BY YOUTUBE as promised. The videos I post here are acceptable to me because I did not encounter a commercial. I hope when a reader listens to them here they contribute to the hits.

I will continue my policy of not posting videos that have commercials on this blog. YouTube would not exist if it were not for the way people early-on decided to CONTRIBUTE TO IT. People spent many hours creating content as volunteers. I seek out those contributors who believe in this COLLABORATIVE EFFORT. Some of us did that at no charge to Google or the Universe in the spirit of NON PROFIT SHARING for years, but YOUTUBE is worth millions... And, sadly, you may here there is no such thing as a free lunch, but there is because you served it!

SNL 50TH ANNIVERSARY SKITS DESPERATE - UNFUNNY - GUTTERAL and GROSS

I really wanted to be amused - especially by the UFO abductee skit that featured some so called "A List" actors, but it seems the SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE 50th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL featured comedic desperation which resorted to dirty shock value !

I always appreciated that SNL was on. It was so New York City and one of the few television shows on networks that featured creative skits and guests - but over 50 years I was not ever a chronic viewer.

In recent years, on a Sunday, I would watch the YouTube redux of the previous night's skits. I and some friends loved the Donald Trump parodies especially.

I enjoyed the fairly recent dog park skit, in which the actors ran the gambit of dog behaviors from scooting butts on the floor to the zooms, but one of my dog-lover friends saw it and said, "No! No!  They didn't!

The skits I saw for the 50th anniversary - sorry!

It's kind like when Joan Rivers was funny for national television standards but she (and her daughter) became known for filthy language outrageousness and crass putdowns instead.

If you want to laugh without all the sexual references, watch DRYBAR Comedy on YOUTUBE!

I'LL DO A DANCE INTERPRETATION ON THE LAWN and MS. VAGUELY DISSATISFIED

I once had a friend who, when I asked her what her religious beliefs were, said ennegrams.  She also said, with a shrug of one shoulder, she once attended the seminar (induction into) for Lifespring. In general, if you had to run a quote under her picture that typified her, it would be "No Bullshit. Just get it done." She was (and probably still is) one of the most productive people I've ever met.  But that also meant that she would cut you short when you need to talk. Single-minded.  Focused.  Busy.  Selfish. People always said she was "such a personality" because of her positivity.

I read a book about ennegrams and decided the 9 personality types were simplistic. I thought that she was probably into it because she felt that knowing what type of person someone was would help her communicate with them the best way.  She had the tendency to blurt whatever came into her mind, child-like, and had been offensive in general and had personally hurt my feelings more than once with the blurting. Maybe she knew it.

I couldn't decide which ennegrams best fit her or myself.

As for Lifespring. Well, here is an explanation from Wikipedia...

The training consisted of a series of lectures and experiential processes designed to show the participants a new way of contending with life situations and concerns and how other possible explanations and interpretations may lead to different results. Some individuals complained that they felt harangued, embarrassed, or humiliated by the trainer during the training. A few individuals chose not to complete the training. Additionally, the trainer used many English words in a manner different from their usual meaning. "Commitment", for instance, was defined as "the willingness to do whatever it takes". "Conclusion" was defined as a belief. Also, words such as "responsibility", "space", "surrender", "experience", "trust", "consideration", "unreasonable", "righteous", "totally participate", "from your head", "openness", "letting go" were redefined or used so as to assign them a more specific meaning. "Stretch" was an activity that was outside the participant's comfort zone. During the advanced course the participants were sometimes sent out to perform certain tasks. If any participant did not complete their task the group was considered in "breakdown,"   ...

(How's that for a 'reveal' of applying new meanings and uses for words?  I hope that the following words, being misused in the media, will be rescued;  Deep Dive, Push Back, Down the Rabbit Hole. If you use these try Research, experiencing opposition or conflict, and Explore.)

Ennegrams and Lifespring : Seems to me the point was to change your thinking and that such programs were about Self Actualization - an aspect of the whole New Age Movement in which instead of having a relationship with God and depending on Him , his Will, his Design for your Fate, a person dared to decide what they wanted for themselves and who they were and then strove to get just that. Such people in the past were burned as witches.

Ah, who was it that said, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making plans." ?  or " That's Life." or "Go with the flow?"

It seems to me that some people are better at applying the "Just do it" philosophy and most of them have no patience for others who have life happening to them or who experience life as it happens.

It seems to me that over time I've encountered many philosophies and religions, ways to encounter life, as well as ways to create - actualize - ones needs and desires - often as an encounter with other people who are trying on this or that. It seems to me that this search for a way to live life better is part of being in a rapidly changing world in which it's not always easy or possible to get your footing before you can dance. Self help books - especially about finding the Right One, dating, and relationships; who has not been tempted to write one?
.
Positive thinking - which I tried earnestly at one point - brought me to the conclusion that I'd run smack into the Cement Wall of Denial.

It also seems to me that there are a lot of "thought" emphasis programs - Scientology being one of these - in which emotions are to be done away with - denied, discounted, eliminated. In these philosophies of how to best succeed in life on earth (and in space) we are supposed to rid ourselves of the essential humanness of feeling.

I recall another of my friends, years ago saying, also with a shrug, "Who knows what's really true?" and "Do whatever you want."

We're supposed to be All Brain and No Heart. That in itself is an imbalance. So profound is the influence of these thought process religions, I dare say that few humans alive in California (I want to avoid saying "on earth") have not encountered the notion. We were to be the precursors of AI.

Emotions, particularly ones that are "negative' or 'difficult' are to be eliminated.  Even being happy is thought to be about one's thinking rather than what one is feeling.

I encountered a couple pre-Simpson's cartoon books by Matt Groening, the creator of the Simpsons cartoon. Square and thin, to fit in with record albums in cardboard covers, one called Love is Hell and another Work is Hell.  I thought these were funny. I bought them and then passed them along to friends, who also got a howl.

In Love is Hell I encountered  the nine (or was that twelve?) types of girlfriends.  Like I had when trying to decide which ennegrams fit me best, I tried to decide which of the types of girlfriends typified me.  I decided it was between the two in the title of this post.  I was, at the time, some part the girlfriend who said something like "To show how much I love you, I will do this dance interpretation on the lawn" and Miss (make that Ms.) Vaguely DIssatisfied,  who said something like "I don't know, should I change my hair color?" (I never changed my hair color.  I did try to bring back my childhood blonde at one point, after all that had been all mine.).

Today I learned there's was (is?) club for those who could relate with Ms. Vaguely Dissatisfied harkening back to 2017.   A Matt Groening cartoon inspired club.  The rights to the cartoon belong to Matt and coming from Tumblr the Life is Hell archives, here is the induction:

No Problems? No Problems?  We still love you!

COMEDIAN ACTIVIST GEORGE CARLIN INTERVIEWED BY ART BELL ABOUT NATURAL DISASTERS, GOD, and THE STATE OF HUMANITY

Carlin died in 2008 and did not live as long as he planned.  But it seems to me that so very many people saw the way it was going... and were right.

MY DRAPERY FAILURE : THE MUNDANE and RIDICULOUS

The mundane and ridiculous!

A few weeks ago, in an effort to let the sun shine in, I removed thick draperies, broomed cobwebs, washed windows, and thought new draperies were in order.  I found a fabric that was miraculously unable to wrinkle, a small almost ditsy print that would flow and let the air through.  Ditsy is not like me but I felt that teeny rosebuds  from afar would appear to be an overall textural repeat pattern and, close up, the three colors would work for the rest of the room.

And then...

I spent an entire Saturday from morning to night hand sewing these draperies.

At least I was listening to an audiobook at the same time.

Audiobooks I increasingly embrace because I get to free my eyes and hands from reading while I Create!

This is the "mood" I've been in.

Back in teenage days I had a friend who was a naturally talented seamstress on top of many other talents and skills. While I sewed a zipper in the wrong way more than once on the same pair of summer shorts and didn't get it that corduroy is generally not a fabric to be worn in the heat and humidity, she fashioned a long wool grey coat with a fur collar and silky lining and impeccable buttons that fit her perfectly and kept her warm in the freezing weather. That coat looked like something on sale at Saks Fifth Avenue for a thousand bucks.  Wearing it made her sachay.

It seemed that although I was a failure at sewing, most summers I would get a hankering for something new and sew something. It seemed the sewing machine my mom had always had problems with the tension and was in the shop repeatedly. When people saw me wearing one of my creations they would not say, "You look great!" or "How pretty that blouse is!"  They would say...

"Did you make that?"

To be fair to myself: I had another friend who never threw out a single item of clothing she ever bought. She had sweaters that looked new for years. She said this was due to a trick her mom taught her. Something like throwing in vinegar into the wash water.  If there was anyone on earth worse at sewing than me, it was her.  Because I knew when to give up. One day she walked into a store where I was working at the time, a store that sold 100% cotton clothes that included summer dresses with elaborate ruffly collars. She walked in wearing her version of one of these summer dresses which she might have even made in order to look like one of us girls on staff. There were visible, erratic. and large stitches - the kind one would use to baste - all over the ruffly area, which she had not attached to the body of the dress.  I was embarrassed for her.

But back to the new draperies I hand stitched.

Around ten at night I finally had them finished and decided to hang them.  In the evening light it was clear to me that they looked terrible.

The next day I watched the draperies as the day sun progressed through the windows. These draperies look great only when the full light of the sun is coming through them but terrible the rest of the day and look particularly bad in the evening.

Well, there they are... until I find some better fabric and more time.

Back in the day I got sewing out of my system with my most recent failure.

It's my hope that this latest fail will also work to get sewing out of my system.

YOU'RE A CRIMINAL IF YOU .... BRYAN KOHBERGER EXPOSE!

The following content has appeared on time-wasting "News Stories" that include YouTube videos that feature True Crime, as well as in the actual Media, where paid journalists and researchers attempt to convict a person before the American legal system does just to entertain you and keep up their ratings. NewsNation is especially guilty. I've given time to listening to these over the months since Bryan Kohberger was arrested and I take it he's the only suspect. Over 30 organizations and individuals have filed legal papers to have the Gag Order repealed so they can find more to report upon. In the meantime every possible tidbit of information from unnamed sources is used by him, her, and them to produce "news."

Some of what is seriously reported is really LOL yet extremely worrisome in what it means to me and you.

I have learned that you are a criminal if you...

Wear Rubber Gloves to deal with garbage which might contain all sorts of filth and disease.  (Get that gook under your nails!)

Sort your garbage.  (We not only have to sort recycled items from regular trash and greenery but also separate food scraps for composting. We are advised that some items such as electronics, batteries, spray paint, house paint and nailpolish, should never be put in regular garbage but should be bagged in plastic and taken to toxic waste sites.)

Put garbage in your neighbor's bin.  (We do this all the time when we have no more room in ours. The only provision is that one waits until the night before or morning of trash day.)

Wear a mask or own a mask, even though Covid-19 is still a problem and wearing a mask is still required in some governmental and nonprofit settings, some schools, as well as highly advised in places where you have contact with many other people and social distancing is not possible, such as while riding a public bus. For the record I own two black cloth masks and a couple colorful ones and am still, per situation, wearing the papery give-aways.)

Wear Black. In Central and Southern California, people wear black, which might seem odd to people in other parts of the U.S. where sunshine is associated with bright and loud and colorful clothing (i.e Florida and Arizona) and many people can only think Blue Jeans. I cannot think of anyone I know who does not own and wear some black. I personally still associate with some people who wear black T-shirts, sweats, and other black items like a uniform. Obviously waitresses and hairdressers who wear black are especially suspicious people.)

Own or wear "tennis" shoes. (Ditto!  Casual, rubbery or foamy supportive shoes have replaced formal, leather shoes, even in the workplace, except it seems for truly corporate types, such as bankers.)

Hair is found in your apartment, home, or on your belongings such as the interior of your vehicle.  (Considering that hair loss experts say that humans loose about 200 hairs a day each, I'm surprised there aren't tumble weed sized hair balls rolling down the freeways. Hair sure does block up our tub drains! Especially mixed with tooth paste!)

Are up in the middle of the night.  (All those people who meditate mid-morning like gurus and Whitley Strieber, the UFO abductee, or get up to go to the toilet or suffer from overactive minds are clearly criminal. Let's face it that if you are not buying some sort of remedy for hair loss, you probably are buying some sort of "sleep aid" be it prescribed drug or herbal supplement or melatonin.)

Wear PJ's in the middle of the night.  (Apparently it is better to fall asleep in your day clothing then get comfortable. Then you'll be appropriately dressed for your arrest. Leave your shoes on!)

Underline passages in books. (Before you bring home any book, be it from a book sale, the library, a garage sale, be sure that it is without any underlining that anyone else did. That could get you in real trouble. Also be careful of what sort of books you own or borrow as you are leaving a trace that a mere interest in, say, witchcraft, could really mean something! There is no such thing as an adventurous mind.)

Mention in passing to a neighbor a local murder, shooting, or other crime event.

(Even though it's all everyone is talking about, especially because of all that media coverage, and you're glad you were not there and wonder if your neighbor was. This kind of talk used to be called "small talk" and was the only talk considered safe socially, unlike religion or politics. My dad used to say, "Talk about the weather!" On the list of things that are potentially not safe to discuss with neighbors, strangers, and people at church and work now is the weather (because of climate change controversies) and also diets (because you can be singled out for abuse by Vegetarians and Vegans if you still can afford to and eat meat.)

***

Cruise to find others attractive, especially not where so many attractive people are, such as at college campuses.  (I'm suspicious of all those college lecturers and professors who have hankerings for their young students - ages 18 -21, year after year, as they get older and more decrepit themselves. You know professor there comes a time when you have to look in the mirror and realize you are just too old for them, and 40ish is about that time.)

Look at Facebook and other websites where people post photos of themselves, attractive and sexy (a little tempting cleavage), having fun, drinking and drunk, bragging, attempting to prove themselves popular. (If you don't want International Fame or Infamy, set it on private. On the other hand, if you do not social network you are clearly a weirdo!)

Go shopping or to restaurants or bars or visit with friends within a half hours driving time of your own home.  (Where you live is B O R I N G !)

***

Get nervous when pulled over by the police while driving.  (I got caught in a speed trap once, unknowingly, and was shocked that the police wanted ME to pull over. I was shaking. As I had been in a row of cars behind a red light and was just starting to gain speed, I still think the police officer was shit from boots to cap in claiming I was speeding.)

Plan a road trip or vacation with your very own parent(s)!  (Sadly, this is more suspicious than if you plan a road trip or vacation with your friends, room mates, or coworkers!)

Want company on a long, possibly exhausting, road trip rather than drive all by yourself.  (Don't you want to fall asleep at the wheel?)

Drive rather than fly. (Do you really want to check out the scenery from earth level?  Or pee at a rest stop?  Or eat trucker food?  Consider your flight options!)

Plan to sell your car. (Obviously, anyone who sells a car, especially an older model used, is trying to hide evidence.)

Wash a car that has just been on a long road trip and has so much dirt on it that someone might write "Wash Me" on the back windows with their finger! (Innocent people love their dust, dirt, and grime!  They keep their dogs stinky too!)

***

Have a flashlight and use it!

Vacuum your carpets at home or the interior of your car.  (Using a broom is so much more efficient even if it doesn't suck the dust!)

Shut your cell phone off.  (The battery never needs to recharge.  You never need to restart it, download apps and restart it, and your phone never crashes.  Take it from me, someone who used to own a phone that connected to Las Vegas Nevada in the middle of the night - several hours away! - despite a ping tower a quarter mile away.)

***

And also...

If you laugh out loud, taunt law enforcement or your fellow inmates, you're crazy and dangerous, like Jim Morrison of the Doors.  But if you keep your mouth shut, are too quiet, keep your thoughts to yourself, well... crazier!

If you SHOW INTEREST in what's being televised about your case (such as that the Media has convicted you),  if you SHOW INTEREST in your own defense, then that proves you're guilty!  (Never mind that there is nowhere to go and nothing else to do but watch TV.)

And if you grew up in a Catholic family and went to a Catholic College, and a Catholic priest comes to give you a private Mass once a week, and Holy Communion, well, you're headed strait to Hell or you just did your Last Confession before you're put to death by firing squad.  (Probably there is no chance, Thank God, that Bryan Kohberger is going to become a Born Again, "Saved" Christian in prison, and follow in the footsteps of so very repentant Doreen Virtue.)

Oh, and I forgot to mention, that if you are of an ethnic heritage and have genetic ROUND eye, which is often most associated with White People, clearly there is something hinky about you. Unlike people with eyes that slant or are small or squinty there has been a parade of ROUND EYED CRIMINALS lately, which includes Elizabeth Holmes... the former biotechnology entrepreneur.

***

I could go on, but it's clear that this case rests on DNA evidence, from which blood, bodily fluids, or, yes, hair, is the essential evidence.  But in the meantime be especially careful about the books you read and watch that underlining!

Just remember, there are unique and perhaps ironic things about this case that has captured the imagination, but about 35,000 people in the U.S. are murdered each year, meaning there are about 35,000 murderers, give or take the Mass Shooters, and rarely does a case get the expertise, money, and notice that this one has. Did they really have to fly a helicopter around the Kohberger home for hours before the arrest and then shock the whole family with a break in? Or was that for dramatic effect?

Keep the Gag Order.  Even if it does not apply to the family members. I don't want to hear about how the victims all wore angel wings from Kaylees's family or the family attorney.

Think about it.  If you were accused or arrested, would you not want LEGAL PROCESS, a FAIR TRIAL, and to be CONSIDERED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY?

TIMOTHY SAID IT BEFORE I COULD ! ON THE OBSESSION WITH BRYAN KOHBERGER : TIMOTHY ALLEN CAMPBELL

May 14 2026  Well Bryan pleaded guilty, and so it goes...

Sorry but the video I posted is no longer available.

Timothy Allen Campbell

The driest sense of humor ever or just saying? He is right on about the nation's obsession with Kohberger.  I was composing my own rant about the stupidity of desperate "journalists" and media to keep the Kohberger balloon in the air and NewsNation - which claims to offer unbiased news but has Banfield - awash with emotions meant to prejudice any viewer.  But then I saw this. I no longer click on any YouTube videos from Newsnation.  Shame on media that goes against our Innocent Until Proven Guilty.  It's one thing for YouTubers who live for clicks - which might translate into income - and people who are PAID JOURNALISTS, professionals, to be leading the way towards a pre-trial indictment.

Of all the YouTube True Crime videos I watched regarding this upcoming trial - and it could be a couple years - Surviving the Survivor is the most professional.

Check out his other videos such as the one about Miranda Rights.

HINKY

What makes one person hinky and another not?

I checked the definition of this slang word, which means, as a an adjective, nervous or suspicious.  The problem with this definition is that it's not correct.  A hinky person may not have a case of the nerves or be or act suspicious at all. A hinky person makes YOU nervous or suspicious of them. You think that the person is up to no good. And now that you "know" it, you are somehow involved because they involved you. Involved because they know you know - somehow.

It could be how they look but I think it's more than that. Few people on this earth are beautiful or handsome, which is why we notice those who are and why there is so much emphasis on being one of them.

I  once saw a gallery of old photos on the internet, in which a number small time criminals from a hundred years ago or so had been photographed for an exhibition. These were not arrest photos or prison photos but simply portraits, each man's true nature explained - a pickpocket here - a con artist there.  The question I had was if their looks - their faces - had made it difficult for them to find honest work, forcing them to go into crime. They appeared to be an inspiration for the no-good characters in a comic strip such as Dick Tracy. Had these photos been taken for some Nazi-like purpose? To prove genetic misfortune predicted psychology? Eugenics? For each person, called hinky, was a slight bit unusual looking or hunkering; no 100,000 dollar big smiles here. What of that big slouchy hat? Did hinky people also dress different?

In today's world in which there is so much sexualization, it can be confusing about what is healthy and what is not.  Hinkyness has something to do with sex but yet is not just about sex. it's perhaps more about feeling a person is somehow predatory.

When it comes right down to it, who is or isn't hinky might be something that is self- determined, something without anything close to universal agreement.  Does a person make you uncomfortable?  To the point where your skin actually crawls?

Having a reaction to another person that causes me to think they are hinky is to have a reaction that is a bit different than that they made me feel uncomfortable. I feel the need to find a way to get away from them or to avoid further encounters with them or to at least be very cautious with them. I have a feeling of regret that I ever spoke to them or was in some situation where I met them. While being uncomfortable can happen simply for lots of reasons that are generally inconsequential.

Lots of people are a bit eccentric, or artistic, or nonconforming, or "odd" or thought to be by others and are not hinky. Maybe it's because I've experienced city life, but I take a lot of different people in stride without suspicion.

For instance, a small town overly protected woman I met would actually whisper to her husband that she needed protection at the sight of a man walking down the street who was tattooed or pierced or who sported a rock and roll effect, while seeing such a person has no special effect on me. But the small town woman would hold herself back and stare and mumble and take a breath in and say "Look at that. Oh my God!" First of all, the man was simply walking down the street and not having a personal encounter with her.  If he was also bulked up and walking towards me in a threatening way, I would be concerned that I not get cornered by him. Otherwise it's just another person doing their own thing with their appearance. And as for the rock star effect, I'd probably think "But he has no interest in me so what's the point?"  (I would hire such persons qualified for a job - with a couple exceptions.  I cannot stand piercings through the nose that appear to be something forced upon a cow so that it could be lead by the nose.)

People can be called or considered odd just because they have a lifestyle you don't have or you don't understand. It could be as simple as that the person never married. Or that they love dogs more than people. Or, that they eat meat.

***

I strained to think of women I've know through the years that I could call hinky.

Men?  I could think of several I met who I determined were hinky.  (I could write a book on a hundred bad dates.)

As an example:

I can't remember where or when I met a particular man that I went out on a date with at this point or how it was that he asked me out. But I do remember that the one and only date was uneventful, nothing glaringly obviously wrong except that he attempted to impress me that he was a Rich Preppy - except that he was Jewish and not a WASP - and at that time even construction workers in their dirty uniforms were throwing sweaters from L.L. Bean over their shoulders in bars.  Maybe we went to lunch on a Sunday in Pasadena...

He referred to going to polo matches and talked his investments. He was arraying his feathers as a peacock, showing off. He didn't seem much interested in me.  I wasn't the self expresser I am now in those days. I was just supposed to sit there and be impressed. Be pretty. However, I started feeling that I wanted to go home already. I also felt myself feeling wary of him physically on the way home, even though I was in the passenger seat with a seat belt on and he was in the driver's seat with his seat belt on. He had not reached across the table to hold my hand.  He had not tried to play footsie with me under the table. I should've felt safe.

As we pulled up to the curb, I already had my hand on the door of the car, ready to get out and go. I said a polite goodbye - with no wish to linger, talk, discuss a future plan to get together, or invite him up for coffee.  No, this educated, clean, employed (we speculate monied) gentleman, though a pathetic snob, had not said or done anything that was obviously hinky,  But then he did it, as I went for the car door, my head turned towards the window, I felt a tounge go for my vulnerable left EAR, which by the way held an earring!  We had never hugged or kissed. We were not having sex. Yes, he was doing that.  He was using the last few seconds of our encounter to taste my ear wax. To really stick it in there. Did he think he was turning me on?  I needed to shower ASAP.

I pushed the car door open, got out, and slammed it. I keyed the security gate and ran up the stairs. My phone was ringing. I answered. It was him asking me if I got into my apartment OK?  Was this just to show off that he had a cell phone and could call from the car? He did not call again.  HINKY.

Example:

One of the men I think of, as hinky and hinkier, I still encounter once in a while due to his current job.  But I also encountered him at the job previous to that one and the job previous to that one. He's young, trying to string jobs together to come up with a career like a lot of people. From this I learned he has a history of "falling in love" with women who are here, there, and everywhere, often much older, and often otherwise unlikely. He seems to me to be stuck in the phase boys usually go through, not lingering, in which a person is infatuated with another from afar. Like junior high school.

I now suspect any such person as likely having a rich fantasy life and being a porn addict and either avoidant of real relationships or unable to conjour any.  (For the record I see nothing wrong with NOT being in a relationship, in not being married, or celibacy, as a life style choice. These conditions are a lot better than being in a bad relationship. Take it from someone who has had a number of women friends in bad relationships with men.)

That's NOT it!

A few years ago when I first encountered him, I believed that he wanted to meet someone likely, I invited him to an event where a woman I'd met was working, telling him that she was nice, smart, pretty, and available. (And they were close in age.)

I clued her in too and she was into it. At the sight of him she flipped her hair. Unlike the gallery of cons previously mentioned, this man is actually very good looking.  You would think that he had women throwing themselves at him but that's not the case.

I call this a soft meet. I will not match make or specifically introduce anyone for the purposes of a match up and the event meant they were simply in the same room together. He could decide if he found her attractive and go from there, make his own moves. Afterwords he said he did find her attractive but he did nothing about it.  That's OK.

However, I came to think that he had agreed to attend this event for another reason. Because we had planned to take a walk together afterwards to get some exercise.

We took the walk after the event, a couple miles. At that time he did not know where I lived. As we clearly entered the next town, he suddenly said "We passed your house. Where is it?"  So, he was wanting an address.

"Oh we passed it a while back," I said.  And let that go.

But then came the day someone wanted to put a camera in my face, take a photo, without first asking, which I hate and which happens way too much now. All these people who need content, who want you in their film or on their web site. I don't like it. I told one person NO PHOTOS so she published one in which the back of me and my dog was showing, as if the back of me is not me. NO PHOTOS!  (The beginning of the end to that friendship.)

I had a long day and was feeling tired and I did not want a photo taken, so I spoke up.  And damn if this man told everyone there it was because I thought that a photo would zap my ENERGY, like my anti-photo stance had something to do with an esoteric idea, an ethnic religious thing.  They believed him. What bullshit!

Pain in the ass.

Does everyone look everyone up on the internet?  That was next.  He was trying to find out other information about me that would clue him in so he could be the Mr. Know It All about me. I happen to know there has been and is misinformation related to me or other people with the same name or close to on the Internet. Including someone who was supposed to have been arrested at my address who was not living there and who I never met - an ex tenant who was clearly still using the address months after I moved in. And years ago I actually shut this blog down for some time because some woman who was not me had her picture exposed on Yahoo and under it was a quote that was from me - from my blog.  Good luck to her finding a job!

Does anyone remember when we thought that Russia - the Soviet Union  - Communists - did the kind of spying on their neighbors that people are now thinking of as "transparency" in the U.S. ???  Well, tell me you have Facebook and there is not much of a chance that I'm actually going to look at it.

The more this man wanted to know about me, the weirder I thought he was and the more uncomfortable I got with him. He didn't just want information for himself, but to give to others, to show off to them or be in with them and to REPORT into them.

Then one day he asked me if I would like a little free-lance work. I thought this had something to do with the job he had but he revealed no, it was for him personally.  I said what I usually do.  Well, let me see what you've written so far, and I'll let you know if I can do it. I mean if I want to do it. He said he needed editing and a rewrite.  It turned out he had invented a game. Two pages into his writing, which was incredibly screwed up for a college grad, I realized the game was a game in which women were sex trafficked.

I was appalled.

I'd started editing and wrote notes on the first few pages. But when I realized what was what, I wrote an angry feminist diatribe all over the papers.

One day he caught up with me and asked me what I thought.

I said something like As A Woman I Cannot Put My Energy towards a project like this. It took courage for me to say that and it should not have. I let him know I did not approve. I was not going to be involved in a game in which women as objects were to be traded back and forth among Mexican Mafia drug lords as prizes and the object of the game was to own the most women.

He suddenly realized I was not compliant. "Where are my papers he asked" and I knew he was afraid I had shown it to others.  I had not. "Oh, I can't remember where I put them," I said, honesty.  *Maybe I had shredded them? I I'd spared him my critique of outrage.

From that point on, this hinky character has made it a point of involving himself in my life in some way, in particular when it comes to more free lance work; leads that are always a waste of time - jobs that really do not exist - to the point where I will not follow through if the so called lead is from him.  He has presented himself to OTHERS as a person who gets me work but he never has.  He just wants to appear to be so HELPFUL to me to impress them. Being in situations in which I can't entirely avoid him without carefully planning not to, I see him and hope he is too busy to be friendly.  I caught him watching what I was doing on a computer screen more than once, walking behind me to look. I think of him as a spy.  A gossip. As up to no good.

At the time of the sex trafficking game he invented, which he said was "just a fantasy"  (Yea well, raping babies just starts with a fantasy too...) I spoke with a friend of mine who became a Fundamentalist Republican Christian. Her church prides itself on attracting men from the local drug and booze rehab and I conclude that people who are out of control need the strict rules of a church like that, but...

She thought I should tell on him.  I was torn up. Who would care or listen?  Was there any reason to think that he himself was at all involved with sex trafficking? Or the Mexican Mafia? There was not. (Was he going to market his game on the Dark Web?) Did I want to create a situation in which he might loose his employment?  I tend to not want to effect anyone's employment, to go that far. What it came right down to was that I did not trust the people I would have told to have my point of view or my back.

I chose not to get into it. I hoped that my reaction to his game had put a stop to it.

Hinky...

The skin crawl.

Some years ago when I was writing with a partner, he had a friend, a man who was a regular at the public library, a man who was supposed to be so rich he never had to work. Had he ever tried to? I had seen him around at one branch or another for a few years and well, I was also a regular at libraries at the time, using the public computers, researching for a writing project, and so on. His apartment, dinners out, car, basics, were all paid for though he did not seem to be living lavishly. On the basis that he did not have to work, rather than that he was a homeless hanger-outer, he attracted a group of men who liked to small talk, tell jokes...bad jokes. I stayed on the outskirts of these men when they were in a group, knowing if I ever wanted to be one of the boys it would not be one of these boys...

Well, came the day when the rich kid proved that he was either mentally ill or the ultimate spoiled brat.  He took off in his SUV to parts unknown. His dad did not know where he was except when, after a month, the bill for his charge card came in and he was able to see that he had already spent about $10,000 and had stayed at exclusive resorts as well as what could be considered skid row adjacent lodgings. He was driving all over the state, not leaving the state, spending like he could. He was on the run. But who from?

I recalled the day when I was out front of the library taking a break and some men with cameras showed up. The men were taking photos of the new architecture but this rich kid hid behind a pole. He was showing signs of paranoia.

I was enlisted to try and "talk" to him and I had tried. The story went that he had witnessed an auto accident that was probably a set up.  A friend of his, much older, had been run into, and was now being sued.  He had testified and as a result the criminals were after him.

My writing partner called the Senior Lead Officer who came out and investigated. He even talked to the person who had been accused of the deliberate auto crash, their family, and there was no reason to think he was the member of a gang or after the man. He had, however, been seen in the park where the rich kid took morning walks. Reporting this in to the rich kid made no difference.

Weeks went by and then one day the rich kid showed up at the library. We all went over to talk to him, to figure out if he was OK by now, and to hear about his trip. But there was now something amiss with his eyes which appeared blank. He was clean yet there appeared to me to be a thin coat of grime on his skin.  And then I felt it and saw it. The skin crawled on my left forearm. This was the first and only time in my life that I experienced that.

Later I told another woman writer who used the library about this experience and she said, "He has ALWAYS given me that feeling."

We do not know this to be a fact, but we both wondered if he had been up to no good while he was gone.  Did he harm someone? Did he rape?  Did he assault?  Was it even possible he had murdered?  We were being fantastical in our thinking but the skin crawl says a lot - if not it all.

ENOUGH ALREADY! STUFF I CAN LIVE WITHOUT : HOW ABOUT YOU?

Food Trucks.

I want to sit down in a restaurant - or the outdoor patio - and eat a meal. I suppose an event may be more appealing if food is available that might not normally be, for others, but I don't want to juggle paper plates and bowls, tissues and foils, plastic forks and spoons, and find somewhere to sit that doesn't have filth, for the price of a civilized sit down restaurant meal.

Football.

Good background noise for cooking and keeping other people - mostly men people - out of my way in the kitchen. Half-times (with the exception of Prince) are also increasingly spectacles that I think I might not want children to see. (See Jennifer Lopez below.)

Religiosity.

If your walk doesn't match your talk, then walk on by.  (I've been bombarded with invitations to churches and religion has even been as a condition of friendship over the last few years like never before.)

Camping.

I'm just not rugged enough. It's not that I'm posh. Maybe next life I'll see Yellowstone. I'd like a good mattress in a decent hotel and, oh, a professional massage after I walk -not hike - in nature.

Fireworks.

So glad I don't live near Disneyland or in Monaco. Neighborhoods that tolerate illegal fireworks are abusive to dogs, for starters.

Disney.

I've had enough of the monopoly on cartoon characters and theme parks. Maybe it was the Disney character socks I saw in adult sizes that finally made me realize Walt's precious characters are exploited for money every which way.  Can you raise a child and not expose them to Disney?

Jennifer Lopez.

One of several celebrities who seem to be extremely overly covered in the media.  Have never understood her appeal and do not care about her love-life. Sorry.

Loud Parties, Loud Bars, Loud Concerts

I have excellent hearing. If I can't hear what someone is saying to me and they can't hear what I am saying to them. is that a good time?  If I want to hear music but if it's so loud it's ruining my hearing, ah, I don't get that. It seems to be an oxymoron.

Beer

I've never liked the taste and see no point. (I'm more of a wine person, but I rarely drink.)

Sea Food

The ocean (and other waterways) is/are another world - a different atmosphere - sharing space on the same planet. In my opinion, the oceans are more important than space exploration. I think we should allow all the creatures in it to eat each other. They should go through their life cycles without humans disturbing the ocean ecology which is what fishing does. (Thousands of dolphins killed in nets.)  And as for "farmed" fish, I've heard some nauseating stories about how this is done. Overall, I can go through the rest of my life without another taste of seafood and it would not be a sacrifice.  (My dog loved salmon.)

Hot Peppers.

I suspect that the "fire" hides the taste of horrible food, rotting or tasteless food that should have been thrown into the garbage, and that there is also macho involved in being able to actually ingest, stomach, and poop peppers. Other than the benefits of vitamin C, which can be had in not-hot peppers, in cabbage, in citrus, and so on, I see no point. I never want hot peppers in my food, not even the sprinkles on pizza.

Surprise! You're On Camera!

Events where they take your photo or film you without your permission.  Some of them post a sign that if you enter the event area you agree and damn it, you already traveled there without knowing this in advance. Worse, some don't. There's a person on stage reading poetry... Don't bait me to your event and then turn me into content or steal my image, you rude, ignorant, privacy invading content providers.

DNA Testing Reveals on YouTube.

I'm not entertained or shocked that you just found out your mother was raped or you father has secret children or that you're Italian and not Polish, or that you're an Arab and not a Jew, or that you just found out you're Black. That's supposed to be your private family business, so why does the world need to know via YouTube? Oh I get it, you might make some money if you get enough hits since we're supposed to be 'shocked' along with you.

People who you just met who invite you to check out their Facebook page. Where, you can get a load of their PR and won't have to spend any time getting to know the real them.

Snobs.

There seems to be an overpopulation of people who are not only snobs, but are so low class (even though they have lots more money than me) they feel they have the right to be openly snotty too. They are raising children who also feel entitled to be openly snotty. Guess what?  If you're so great everyone will know it and you won't have to tell anyone!  And I am not impressed that your mummy and daddy paid your college and still pay your rent and make your car payments.

People who blame women for abortions who don't seem to have a problem with the men responsible. This is the ultimate sexism. Since men go around saying "We're pregnant" the stats should be reported as X number of men and women have had abortions. But someone is likely to argue that maybe the stats should be reported by gender and we'll never get an accurate count of the theys and its.
