AM I WHAT I BUY? Clogs with colorful vinyl dog print, bright, cheap acrylic yellow sweater with big faux snowflake across the chest (I was in the mood), nail polish in neutrals (I know, I know), eye-shadow in neutrals (I know, I know).

I WANT TO BUY: Giant lightweight durable carry bag with a zipper. Earrings (It's been a while).

ME!

I DON'T UNDERSTAND

1) Roses with no scent.
2) Roses that smell like roach killer.
3) Roses that were bred not to have thorns.
4) Sinus medication that smells like roses.

Jazz from the early 1960's and back.  Louis Armstrong.  Mickey Hart's Planet Drum.  Played low - just a hint - no lyrics.

THE MOST PERFECT MEAL IN A RESTAURANT I EVER ATE

A Chesapeake Bay lunch of crab cakes.  So good that both I and my dining partner closed our eyes after the first bite and then had our next bite with our eyes closed too.

JUST OUT FOR A LIGHT MEAL I'D LIKE

Middle Eastern or Mediterranean.


Sometimes I crave Thai Food.  Such as lemon grass coconut soup or fat noodles with lots of peanut sauce, but some hummus, pita bread, and olives is just enough.

Overall, I like to order food in restaurants that I'm not going to make at home.

A CHILDHOOD SPENT IN NATURE - BEST MEMORY

One summer day I woke up from a nap and had the desire to walk in the woods. I spotted a huge patch of violets and just then a visible shaft of sunlight made it through the trees and right onto that patch.  It felt to me like God wanted me to see those violets.

WORST PARTIES ...

1) I gave a small dinner party in which someone I'd invited RSVP'd that they would attend, did not show, and then sent over one of their friends - who proved to be an obnoxious groper of a man - without asking me.  After he tried to get hands on with me, I had to ask him to leave.
2) Grown adults who are stuck in their fraternity days don't know that blasting music and drunkenness is no fun.
3) The time I threw a birthday potluck for a business associate at my place of business, with a strict time line.  We had the lunch hour to lose the business.  The woman who was bringing the main disk purposely kept everyone nervously waiting for her.  (I swear she brought spam and peas but my memory may be fallible.)  See the post about reasons why I've dumped friends. She's there.

THREE PLACES I'VE NEVER BEEN THAT I'D LIKE TO VISIT

1) Catalina Island - to see the Bison herd that live in the Interior of the Island.  And since I've never been on a helicopter, I'd like to get there by helicopter.
2) Yosemite (I will stay on path and will not fall into an acid pool.)
3) The Mediterranean.  I'd like to spend time exploring the Amalfi Coast, stop in Monaco for a day or two, and then go to Greece.

THINGS THAT PEOPLE HAVE RECENTLY CHALLENGED ME ON

1) Why won't you wear high heels? (They are uncomfortable.)
2) Why didn't you vote for Hillary Clinton? (I am still a feminist.)
3) Why do you go to the library so much? (Do you really have to ask?)

AT THE RISK OF SOUNDING STUPID

(To me the sound of a game in the background means that fall has arrived and that I can count on no interference in the kitchen.)

GIFTS I RECIEVED THAT I QUICKLY THREW AWAY

Quickly!
1) A massive corsage that someone who had not even called me for 6 weeks showed up with on an Easter long ago.  Was I supposed to pin this on my t-shirt?  Did his mother buy it for me?
2) Her child-sized Timex watch - without a band - that came in a Christmas package in obviously reused paper.  There was a smell of moth balls.  Later she said, "It's the thought that counts."
3) Did I mention the stale Christmas candy that also smelled of mothballs?

THREE REASONS I'VE DUMPED "FRIENDS"

1) More than one woman has used me, without my knowledge and permission, to explain to her husband where she was (or who she spent money on) when cheating on him.  Then the husband hates me and puts an end to my friendship with her.

2) Theft of Intellectual Property.

3) Those who think that when they read the words "Confidential" on the top of the letter, it's time to immediately gossip the contents.  You know who you are!

THE STRANGEST QUESTION A CHILD HAS EVER ASKED ME

"Do you make lots and lots of money?"

Anthropology is to me the most superior "social science."
I also read around archeology.

FIRST HARD BACK BOOK I BOUGHT THAT I STILL HAVE

I bought a copy of Isadora Duncan's memoir that had been published in England.  It still had a London subway ticket in it as a place mark.  Sadly I have since learned that hers was a case in which memory was fallible.

STRANGEST DREAM I'VE HAD RECENTLY

I was swimming under the sea with a variety of whales.  Around me it looked like one of those posters that depicts a variety of whales as if they all swim closely together - a fantasy.  I heard a voice over that said "go ahead and breath in the water.  It will be OK.  You can breath water."  But of course I woke up instead.

RECENT ACTIVITY THAT HAD ME MOST EXCITED

Whale Watching.
2 sets of orcas (no doubt looking to eat sea lions)
A huge whale tale.
Many spouts (I'm learning to identify whales by different sizes and shapes of spouts!)
And one huge side of a Grey Whale out feeding on a choppy sea full of white caps.
(Son of Moby Dick!)
