About a decade ago, I started finding pennies as I walked along and picking them up.
Once I got a dog and started watching the ground for pieces of glass that could tear her feet and old chicken bones that she'd like to eat, I started finding more coins. Sometimes it's uncanny. Walking diagonal across an empty parking lot, for instance, I was almost startled to stop and see a penny.
Some people will only pick up coins and bills that are "head's up."
I think those are worth a few kicks to turn them around.
I pick up heads and tails.
But I do think finding pennies and other coins are signs.
If there is something I'm thinking of doing and I find a penny, to me it's the OK.
One time in my life I found a hundred dollar bill and absolutely no one around to ask if it might be theirs. I was on a side road off a canyon on the way to Malibu. I took that as a real pat on the back.
Then a couple years ago, I opened up my can of found coins and discovered that I had picked up over $40 worth over time. I donated it to a good cause.
