NATURE PREVAILS IN THE SUNLIT KITCHEN WINDOWS

Yesterday morning I did some dishes before leaving for the day.  Sunlight was coming through the windows.   I've noticed this time of year the flies love to come in.  They are attracted to the brightness of the windows.  Some intelligent spiders have taken to making elaborate webs in the same windows.  You can only see the webs in the bright sunlight.

Once the flies have buzzed around a bit, they quickly realize they are inside a dwelling and can't get back out. They aim for the windows. I usually open the door and try to give them a second chance.  I know that if the spiders don't get them they will fly around until they are exhausted.  They get weak, they stop flying, and they usually pass into the Other World for Flies on or near a window sill.  Think of it, the desperation, the knowing... Picking up the bodies with a wetted tissue...

Well, I heard buzzing and saw that the buzzing was not a fly, but a bee. A pollinator type, not a bumble.  He could have backed out but touched a tiny part of the sticky web.  A pod-bodied spider did not hesitate.  He chomped off a bee leg.  I was sick. When I came back a few minutes later I noticed that there was absolutely nothing left of that juicy bee.  The spider didn't even bother to wrap up the left-overs since there were none.

Nature is utterly sociopathic.

WELCOME TO MY JUNGLE by CRAIG DUSWALT : CHRISTINE TRYNA BOOK REVIEW

This book is funny.  It's also easy to read.  So it's a good vacation book.  Duswalt's claim to fame - and the foundation of a marketing/networking business he promotes in the book - is that he was a personal manager to Axl Rose of Guns n Roses for a couple years after having done the same for the band Air Supply.  Job description: Everything.  His job was unrelentless with extreme hours and stress and of course some zany things happened. It was also a very long tour and lead to that particular line up of rock stars disbanding.

I was very sensitive to the fact that Duswalt talked 90% + about Axl, just mentioning other band members.  OK, fair enough, after all he was devoted to satisfying Axl's desires and needs as a rock star on tour and wasn't working for them. Duswalt mentions Slash as a drinking buddy.  That said, this reader desired to know more about how others on tour conducted themselves.

"Unauthorized account."  That usually means that the persons mentioned did not approve, which can be a good thing, since most are, in my opinion, more interested in marketing and promotion than the truth.

I was also sensitive to how sharply this book was edited. Perhaps it's simply the voice of a person who gets to the point quickly.  There was a kind of beat poet quality to it or perhaps that was comedic timing.  As a result it moves quickly but it also leaves me wanting - more!

VIBES : EXPERIENCE TWENTY-SEVEN : CHRISTINE TRZYNA WRITING WORKSHOP

VIBES - What the hell are vibes?  Seems since the 1960's at least, vibes have been acknowledged and the term - short for vibrations - such as in Good Vibrations - has been used.

"I picked up on his vibe."  More than mood contained.  Something that gets spread around, at least in a person's vicinity, unless they are perhaps a Godman or Godwoman and have a larger field of influence.

WHAT ARE VIBES TO YOU?  What are your vibes? Where and when and who have you encountered?

JUST HOW HOT and DRY IS IT?

So, today was 'be good to my dog' day.

She is now closer to 15 years old than 10 and she is showing her age.  I have a wonderful wheeled carrier for her and when we go more than a block, I take it with me.  When she appears tired - or the sidewalk is too hot for any dog's paws - I pop her in and wheel her.  She likes to ride with her little head sticking out.  It's a bumpy ride on the sidewalks and streets and sometimes my elbows throb later from all that vibration, so I suppose she must feel that in her bones too.  Yet, when I move the carrier towards the door, she sees that and she readies herself to go. More fun than sleeping the day away, I suppose.  And she does love to shop - especially the dog food and treat stores.

I pack a bottle of water and a small water bowl.  I pack some treats. A thin blanket and a small fat cushion for the bottom of the carrier.  Sometimes food. Or a sweater for her.

We left a store and went to sit on a metal bench that was in the shade but on cement before we headed to the cool shade of the grassy park. I took her out of the carrier and pulled out the water bowl. I filled it with some water from the bottle.

Then, before she could even take a sip, came a bug - running right towards the bowl! The bug must have been desperate for water.  It must have smelled water.  Heard the pour. Perhaps it was ready to die of thirst. It was some sort of beetle, about the size of a big watermelon seed and striated brown.

I quickly moved the carrier, the dog, and the water bowl out of the way.  But I poured some water onto the cement.

The bug stopped right at the edge of this pool of water.  And it stayed there at the edge and it drank.

MIKE O'CONNOR quote from CRISIS PURSUED BY DISASTER, FOLLOWED CLOSELY BY CATASTROPHE

 page 230...

"Wars are perfect places for people with a lot to forget. They can fill you with such terror for your life and such horror at what people can do to one another that they strip your mind of what came before ........... War can also make you fall in love, with bullets spraying at any time, nothing to eat tonight, or to prevent you from freezing by dawn, you take a narrow view of things.... When nothing is safe, the future becomes a vague promise and the past a vaguer memory. Even when you are outside direct danger, life turns unpredictable. Nothing is secure and who you were may disappear. If you can reach over and find someone like yourself, someone equally desperate to escape the past and you can steal a few days and nights with such a person in a city like Rome, you won't want to ever let go....
