WE'RE VOTING FOR PRESIDENT - NOT A KING OR EMPEROR!

Over the last several weeks people have become passionate about the Presidential Election, and in particular, the REPUBLICANS I associate with have become radical.  Oh the KNOW IT ALLS that I know!  (It's good to be passionate though!)

I'm convinced that TRUMP VOTERS are actually HYSTERICS who belong to a CULT.

One of my friends has a woman friend who WATCHES FOX ALL DAY AND NIGHT.  She has been leaving up to three crazy messages an hour about what will happen to us if a DEMOCRAT (KAMALA HARRIS) is elected, predicting CIVIL WAR and WORLD WIDE DOOM.

I told him BLOCK HER NUMBER!

The DEBATE was so about candidates accusing each other of doing and not doing.

HERE'S A FACT:  Yes, the President of the United States, the best country in the world - and it could be argued the most influential in the world - has POWER.  But it IS NOT UNCHECKED POWER.  (And VICE PRESIDENTS have much less power than Presidents.  We barely hear about them in the media unless they run for the Presidency themselves, so anyone blaming VP Harris for things that went through legislation apparently doesn't know how it all works and should not be running for high office.)

When a candidate talks what they are FOR or NOT FOR, this is a position, a world view, a philosophy of life, an IDEALISM. It does not mean whatever they say they WILL DO will GET DONE!

WE ARE NOT ELECTION A KING OR AN EMPEROR!

A President of the United States DOES NOT (and SHOULD NOT) get to do WHATEVER THEY WANT to us.  No, there's the SENATE and the CONGRESS providing input and otherwise approving or disapproving notions and WE THE PEOPLE GET TO ELECT SENATORS and CONGRESSPEOPLE TOO!

I think most people VOTE FOR THEIR JOBS.

I think we cannot let just ONE ISSUE sway our entire vote.

CONSPIRACY THEORIES!

A DEEP MISTRUST.  (ANXIETY)

AN INABILITY TO MAKE A DECISION WITHOUT PLENTY OF RESEARCH.

AND THEN SOME.

I wish us all luck!

MELANIA and ME by STEPHANIE WINSTON WOLKOFF : CHRISTINE TRZYNA BOOK REVIEW

I was handed the hard-back copy that a friend had just bought and read and will be passing this book to another reader shortly. I know what certain critiques and articles expect me to think about this book but I'm not dictated to.

This book is one long immensely detailed bitch about being overworked, underpaid, disrespected, and under-appreciated in the work place, and ultimately in a friendship. Most of us have had that experience.  I know I have.  That might be my life story - or yours - but I wasn't a child of privileged, able to put a toe into prestigious Vogue to work there first.  Events I planned and saw through were not benefits for the Met's fashion ball. I've met a few celebrities and a few millionaires but my social life is not among them.  Stephanie Winston Wolkoff was immensely qualified for the assignment she was vetted for by First Lady Melania Trump. That she kept at it to the point of suffering financially and health-wise, is her fault. She was not one of us who has to work for a living.  Not that I think it's wrong to be well off and ambitious. But why do us commoners stay at jobs we hate?

The story of the chaotic Trump White House is as expected, sorry to say, and not a surprise.

The book reads as though S.W.W. was keeping a diary on top of everything else she was working extreme hours on. If not a diary, then a journal or at least a calendar, of her work struggles, including having lawyers work on a contract that might describe her title, responsibility, and pay.

Very little is said about the FRIENDSHIP that the title of this book depends upon. There are mentions of brief smiley interactions, and many references to emails that are brief and full of emojis.  First Lady Melania actually seems appreciative, if not one to go on and on in her communications.  There are lots of air kisses on both cheeks, so to speak.

THE WORST THINGS YOU CAN SAY ABOUT MELANIA TRUMP after reading this book are the things noone would dare say about JACQUELINE BOUVIER KENNEDY.

That she prefers supporting her husband and his career and taking care of her child, then having a career of her own while also the First Lady.

That she's not in the loop about political issues, though once in a while she has influence on her husband.  She has a mind of her own as he does and is not always cooperative about what others want her to do as First Lady.

That she has very little personal power and then it's hiring staff to advise on fashion, hair, diplomatic expectations, protocol, and entertaining dignitaries.

That she goes off on relaxing vacations alone while others toil.  They are paid after all, while she is not.

That she shows up on the campaign trail not so much.

That she embodies tranquility and it seems that is what President Donald Trump looks forward to and depends on.

I think First Lady Melania Trump has mastered what few women seem to these days - That she is enough.

The real story here is how Trump's grown children, in particular Ivanka Kusher, are present, and domineering and can be sneaky or savvy about sabotaging Melania. It's the story of how a good soldier (Stephanie) on Melania's side goes to battle with Ivanka's side.

For that, Melania must, in my opinion, resort to supreme patience, philosophy, and prayer.

As for the preternaturally tall for his youth, Barron Trump, or his father, the author takes aim to diagnose.  Fair when it's about our President.  Unfair when it is a child.

BERNIE SANDERS SAYS YOU CANNOT SIT THIS ELECTION OUT

VANITY FAIR HIVE - BERNIE SANDERS ENDORSES JOE BIDEN by Abigail Tracy

EXCERPT: Sanders said, "At this moment we have a president who's trying to undermine democracy and move us into an authoritarian form of society.  Those are huge issues. Unbelievable.  And I think Joe understands that.

8/13/20

I COULD HAVE WON A LOT OF MONEY BETTING ON BIDEN - HARRIS DEMOCRATIC TICKET

Yes, I could have made a lot of money.  I predicted way back before the whole process started that, despite being for Bernie Sanders for President of the United States, in the end Joe Biden and Kamala Harris would be the ticket.  I thought Harris would be asked not only because she wanted the Presidency, but because she's in California, a populous state that has a lot of electoral votes.  Everyone wants California.

We Californians will probably still be part of the United States so long as we feel we have representation.  Though it's improbably I sometimes wonder if we are so different that we might have to form our own country.  If only we were not so dependent on Federal funds.

5/12/20

I PREDICTED JOE BIDEN and KAMALA HARRIS MONTHS AGO

Yes, even though I'm all for Bernie Sanders.  Now that Biden is almost out of the news, and we continue the daily chaos of a horrid Republican administration, with the King and All the Kings Men (and some Women) embroiled in daily antics, all which have given the American people a collective anxiety.

How I wish that Bernie had not "Suspended" his campaign.  Why do we use that language, "Suspended"?  If a student got suspended from high school, it was temporary, meant to discipline the student, but then they came back.  He did not Suspend.  He gave up and quit.

We need to get back to the "conversation" about the election.  Coronavirus-19 makes this especially so.

How I wish our government would go back to the WORKS PROJECT ADMINISTRATION and the CCC's - programs that helped people who wanted to work and earn some money during a Great Depression unemployment rate - survive.

We have always had to give some consideration to a Vice President candidate - a running mate - and the line of succession.  Because of the virus we need to consider health issues more than ever.  However, we have had DISABLED PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES and DISABLED PRESIDENTS - who had to hide their medical issues at the time - and who still did the job.  Certainly their medical issues had effects on their world view and thinking, but we have no reason to think either was unable to do the job, the way President Trumps behaviors have.

These include President Franklin Roosevelt and President John F. Kennedy.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS LEAVES NO ROOM FOR BEING IN THE MIDDLE and BERNIE SANDERS

Political correctness.

It seems to me it's used as a form of censorship.  It should be politically correct to be able to air your opinions without fear of censor.

I'm generally thought of as open minded and liberal - progressive.  I think that is true of me. Even I, however, meet people who are soooo politically correct - usually to the extreme left but sometimes to the extreme right - that I feel myself on unexpectedly shaky middle ground.

I sit in silence. I don't want to get into an argument.

I have NOT become a person who becomes more conservative with age.  Rather I have found that certain things I might have explored at some time in the past are not for me and were never for me (but maybe if I hadn't explored I might not know that.)  Maybe with age we just become our truer selves.

I've felt that if you have to error, error on the liberal side.  As a basis for my philosophy of live and let live, I'm strongly for choice. There are many things other people do that I still would never. Some liberals confuse my feeling that other people should be allowed to live as they choose with things about me that are not true, but I live with it.

Among the people who have surprised and confused me in recent months...

A woman who has gone radical against abortion, though she herself has had two.  Living a childless life she was able to focus on her career, avoid staying married to Mr. Wrong to raise children, and has money from all those long hard hours she worked childless, enough for world travel. The same person criticized a friend of mine for being married 15 years and not having a child with her husband.  (Now that she's a part of a Bible -based fundamentalist church where the minister urges everyone to Republicanism, I didn't ask, but wonder why she doesn't want other women to have the same choice she did to be married for the third time and childless.)

A minister at a progressive" church whose serman took her personal veganism into a "We All Know" and "Save the Earth" dimension.  I felt like eating a steak raw and dripping with blood after sitting still for this, though I usually only eat steak a couple times a year well done hearing this and later joked that I would be part of the Carnivore Choir.  For a long time now I have felt that most people I encounter with vegan politically beliefs - though they tie this in with the resources used to grow meat and animal welfare - do not understanding that some people here in the United States would be dead if it were not for hot dogs and five for a dollar Asian noodle soup packages.  They say it's inexpensive to be Vegan but all those special products that are bought to ensure enough nutrition are expensive.  I once had Vegan friends who traveled with a suitcase full of herbs and supplements. Some of the products are just as processed as not organic foods, just as full of useless calories and fat and sugar.

I'm firmly convinced I'm bodily a mammal and carnivore, a product of evolution and thousands of years of eating meat, I have the teeth and intestines for it and if you're reading this, I bet that's true of you too.

So what does this have to do with Bernie Sanders?

Well, I DO NOT EXPECT ANY DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE TO GET MUCH DONE _ SUCH AS UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE, unless the House and Senate are controlled by Democrats.  I'm well aware from talking to Canadians and reading Daily Mail UK about their "Socialist" health care that there are problems - that it probably will not guarantee excellent health care on demand for all.   Instead long waits and lots of criticism plus most people who go into medicine expect to make excellent money and we have a doctors shortage so nurse practitioners are doing a lot of the work. However, holding the idealism is important, and so is starting the negotiation.

I have to admit that Andrew Yang was also of interest to me.  I liked his idea of giving every American $1000 a month to spend the way they want to such as rent, student loans, business start up, paying back debt.  I didn't like that this money was to anyone who was not already getting $1000 a month from the government such as on Social Security, SSI, SSDI, as so many people are living in dire poverty on those programs.

Last Presidential election I felt that I was unsure who I wanted to vote for too close to voting so I took an online questionnaire and learned I was 3/4 for Bernie and 1/4 for Donald Trump. The crowd I run with at the moment, upon hearing Bloomberg was considering Hillary as his Vice President collectively sighed at that news.  We're all desperate for the end of the present chaos of the Presidency.

And I mean to send a Thank You to Mitt Romney.
